The Prostitute In Dostoevskys Crime and Punishment, Notes from Undergr

The Prostitute In Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment, Notes from Underground, and The Meek One The whore is an inquisitive installation of Victorian period writing. Underway of William Thackeray and Samuel Richardson it was nearly clichã © for the courageous woman to wind up in a place of prostitution and afterward to rise above that circumstance in a demonstration of legitimate Victorian ethics. Having seen numerous young ladies constrained by extraordinary neediness to take up the exchange of a free lady, Fyodor Dostoevsky, a petit-common run into some bad luck himself, adopted a fairly unique strategy to the entire issue; he perceived that these ladies were not absolutely without merit as such huge numbers of individuals of the time thought. Georg Brandes talked precisely when he stated, Dostoevsky lectures the profound quality of the outcast, the ethical quality of the slave. Dostoevsky investigated these topics through whore characters in a significant number of his works. The most well known of these characters are found in Crime and Punishment, Notes from Underground, and The Meek One. Each of these presents a one of a kind way to deal with the state of whores and the issue of their recovery. In Crime and Punishment, Dostoevsky utilizes the character of Sonia Marmeladov, whose first name implies insight, not exclusively to represent God's benevolence toward a fallen lady however to have her reclaim both herself and Raskolnikov through God's kindness. As in the story given by Father Zosima on his passing bed in The Brothers Karamazov, Raskolnikov's underlying association with Sonia in Book I works as his tail of grain which shields him from being totally cut off from God's effortlessness. Similarly as the elderly person in the anecdote was without merit aside from the reality she gave the poor person a tail of grain, Raskolnikov needs merit after his lethal deed exce... ...uments of elegance. Be that as it may, above all, he discloses to us that without our own endeavor to rise above our corrupt nature we will bomb like the Underground Man or jump to our profound and physical fate as the courageous woman of The Meek One did. We are all Raskolnikov, we are all Sonia. The key is to endeavor, endeavor more earnestly and endeavor everlastingly to arrive at the inaccessible flawlessness lost to us and inaccessible without God. European Court of Justice Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

European Court of Justice - Essay Example This case was a milestone throughout the entire existence of the ECJ and the end drawn was the Community establishes another legitimate request of global law to assist which the states have restricted their sovereign rights, but inside constrained fields, and the subjects of which contain Member States as well as their nationals. The ECJ additionally held that either an individual or a firm can rely upon the stipulations of the accords against the national government and its privileges are enforceable in a local court. The lawful balance for the end in Van Gend en Loos is entirely debatable. The Court deciphered Article 12 as significance to give rights on people. The Court refered to the Preamble, which makes reference to residents and furthermore States, and to the initial sign framework in Article 177 (which is presently Article 234). This unmistakably predicts gatherings can raise inquiries of Community law in the national courts. In reality here the general wording of the EC accord can be deciphered as one that exacts direct impact and creates individual rights to be ensured by the national courts.2 The court had actualized and explained direct result to incorporate optional enactment, particularly the orders (Miriam Lenz, et al 2000, p.509). Indeed the court had really expressed that the effect of a mandate would be debilitated if people were kept from depending on it under the steady gaze of national courts and if the last were kept from thinking about it as a component of Community law.3 Plainly the origination of direct result is one of the most fundamental lawful tenets made by ECJ (Prinssen and Schrauwen, 2002). The dependability standard expressed that the Member States needed to comply with their principles.4 Subsequently the national courts had an obligation dependent on the guideline of matchless quality to offer need to network law when a contradiction emerged with national law. Under these conditions the network law would need to be applied straightforwardly in a legitimate test. Consequently the effet utile, of EC law thus required the national courts to authorize network law in the conditions where it was suitable (Paul, and Grainne, 2003). This adjustment of the Court that a stipulation of an order has the limit of being reliant even in lawful procedures in the midst of individual gatherings has as a general rule obscured the hindrance of the flat immediate result of orders. Crucial strategy The essential arrangement method of reasoning for dismissal of flat direct effect of Directives in Marshall5 was just a literary contention. The ECJ decreed that a Directive can't be needy against a person since, as per Article [249] of the EEC Treaty, the restricting nature of an order, which comprises the reason for the chance of depending on the mandate under the watchful eye of a national Court, exists just according to 'every Member State to which it is addressed'6 The ECJ further expresses that an order may not of itself force commitments on an individual and that an arrangement of a mandate may not be depended upon as such against such an individual. This end framed the reason for succeeding case law. On examination three significant issues can be contemplated out. A.G. Jacobs in Vaneetveld v Le Foyer SA7 expressed that the methodology as set somewhere near ECJ is hard to determine with the legal translation to certain Treaty as additionally straightforwardly coordinated to the Member State. In this way in the Defrenne case8 the

Through managing and changing the patterns we have learned from childhood, we may break the dysfunctional generational behaviors that are passed on from one generation to another. The title of Wilson’s book, Hurt People Hurt People, serves as an appropriate summary for this work as well. Everyone bears wounds or scars from past hurts which are not always physical, but are emotional, verbal and spiritual (p.9). These scars may have been inflicted intentionally or unintentionally, but nevertheless they exist, affect the way one things and feels, and have an impact on one’s future relationships. These hurt people will, in turn, hurt others thus causing a perpetual and continuous series of hurts. The goal of counseling, then, is to break this sequence of hurts which will then create healthy, loving individuals, thus de stroying the generational series of dysfunctional and hurtful behavior. Analysis Of Gulliver s Travels - 1933 Words

Cameron Aiello Professor Lund Final Paper 14 May 2017 Throughout all of Jonathan Swift’s writings there are many commonalities. One in particular that stands out is the use of satire throughout both â€Å"Gulliver’s Travels†, which tells the story of a series of voyages of Lemuel Gulliver’s published in 1726, and â€Å"A Modest Proposal†, where Swift uses the idea of cannibalism to captivate his audience as well as focus on society’s problems. Throughout Swift’s life, politics and religion had a huge impact on him and more importantly, his writing. Many of the satires that Swift uses in his works have to do with politics and the changing ways of the Catholic church in the 1800’s. â€Å"A Modest Proposal† written in 1729, was a satire written to†¦show more content†¦Swift is using this quotation to show that he cares about the poor and struggling people and he really wants to help them. This is also a different type of writing from Swift, who usually is always criticizing someone rather than showing empathy for them. But since Swift disagrees with the English so much, he chooses to write about it and make those with wealth and power look evil and selfish. Swift who chose not to make it known he was writing this satire, continues to bash England on page 509 by saying, â€Å"I fortunately fell upon this proposal; which, as it is wholly new, so it hath something solid and real, of no expence, and little trouble, full in our own power; and whereby we can incur no danger in disobliging England: for this kind of commodity will not bear exportation; the flesh being of too tender a consistence, to admit a long continuance in salt; although, perhaps, I could name a country, which would be glad to eat up our whole nation without it†. Here, once again Swift shows that England has no problem with the Irish starving and not being able to survive or make money as long as the rich and powerful are facing no hardships. Also by using the words â€Å"eat up† he is going back to the idea of cannibalism, not by the poor but by the wealthy who are taking what is left of the the other nations to become more powerful and to gain moreShow MoreRelatedAnalysis Of Gulliver s Travels896 Words   |  4 Pagesgiven education and freedom, they will default to partaking in foolish behavior. Kids Story Essays - Checkers, NYPD Blue, , Term Papers

Kid's Story Andy Morgan went to mass every Sunday. He never missed one. He went with his mother, father, baby sister, and on occasion he brought his cat, checkers along. After mass they all went for lunch and a walk in the park. One day the unspeakable happened to checkers the cat; he passed away. And Andy was sad. The next Sunday Andy told his family that he did not want to attend mass that day. His family was shocked, especially his mother who wanted to know why. So she marched up to his room and asked "why don't you want to come with us to mass honey?" Andy looked up with a stream of tears flooding his face and said"because God doesn't love me anymore, he took Checkers away, and now I am sad". Andy's mother explained to Andy that God took checkers to a better place, and that he should be happy for checkers. She also explain to Andy that for every door that God closes, he opens a window. His mother's words consoled him, but Andy was still sad. Andy eventually went to mass that Sunday, and as was their custom, went for a walk in the park. Madame Schachter essays

Madame Schachter essays Madame Schachters Point of View We were being lined up and stuffed into a boxcar of 80 people. The air and food are scarce. All the heat was unbearable. Lying down was out of the question, and we were only able to sit by deciding to take turns. It has been days since we had stopped last. Saving rations was our rule. We would save for tomorrow because tomorrow might be worse. Im here with my youngest some Isaac who has been brave throughout this entire ordeal. My husband and two older sons, Jacob and David, were taken away by mistake to a different camp. I fear I will never see them again. On the first night of our journey I would moan in my sleep asking God why he had separated my family from me. The train has finally stopped. A man closest to the window said the sign read Kaschau. A German officer who was accompanied by a Hungarian lieutenant-interpreter who introduced themselves greeted us. He said to us, From this moment, you come under the authority of the German army. Those of you who still have gold, silver, or watches in your possession must give them up now. Anyone who is later found to have kept anything will be shot on the spot. Secondly, anyone who feels ill may go to the hospital car. Thats all. He also told us, There are eighty of you in a wagon, if anyone is missing, youll all be shot, like dogs... The doors were then closed again and we went on another journey of not knowing where we would end up. During this journey I saw a fire in the corner of the boxcar, by the window. I could see the flames shooting up and the burnt flesh. I yelled and screamed, Look! Look at it! Fire! A terrible fire! Mercy! Oh, that fire! Nobody would believe me. Even my own son was trying to calm me down, Its all right, Mummy! Theres nothing there ... Sit down... I kept screaming at them for a couple days. Soon other men on this boxcar tied me up, gagg...

Commenting on discussion forum - Essay Example To the contrary, his family cheerfully accepts him as he plays the function of a mother substitute nursing his family. The movie, â€Å"The blossoming of Maximo Oliveros,† demonstrates that gay life does not necessarily follow preordained patterns or preconceived ideas. Maximo undergoes transformation, but with little suffering, which is not in the manner in which casual viewers might anticipate. Contrary to most films, the family does not appear to undermine personal preferences such as gender. The dichotomy between gender and sexuality can be regarded as significantly interchanged within the film. The film, The blossoming of Maximo Oliveros, can be considered to place a positive reinforcement of homosexuals into perspective. The film depicts the stereotypical and real lives of gays in good light, especially regarding gender reassignment and cross-dressing. The film, The blossoming of Maximo Oliveros, mirrors cultural acceptance of homosexuality within Philippines. The treatment of homosexuality is distinct and refreshing, and the film does not resort to stereotypes at the expense of gay characters. One of the film’s most interesting aspects relates to the portrayal of the possibility that effeminate homosexuals can live relatively peacefully in the slums. The film depicts that the general mood in Philippines regarding homosexuality situated between tolerance, amusement, and acceptance; however, this does not necessarily mean that the Philippines is immune from the spurts of homophobia (Roces and Grace 61). The film demonstrates the easiness of accepting others who are diverse from the norm as long as they build a bond. Taxation and health care financing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Taxation and health care financing - Essay Example Health care financing is one of the most fundamental issues faced by every society which has some health care services to provide to its members. Health Care Financing is a term which often refers to the means and sources required to provide health care services. However, it is also critical to understand that sourcing of financing the healthcare do not only include just the money but it also include the voluntary sources such as rendering of voluntary services as well as gifts received in kind. The issue of financing health care is critical in the sense that the quantum of financing defines the overall quality of basic health care provision. While discussing healthcare financing, it is also important to understand the sources of financing i.e. from where to raise the money, how those sources are used and who controls them therefore, what is critical is the fact that health care financing is not just limited to the monetary aspect of financing but it also requires careful management o f various other non-monetary aspects of health care financing too. While discussing the sources of financing for health care, taxation is one of the major sources which can help raise the necessary funds to leverage healthcare provision on much larger scale. Taxation is also important because of it is probably the largest source of revenue for any government to fund its expenses including expenditure on health care. This paper will discuss some of the advantages of using taxation to finance health care. Taxation and Health Care Financing One of the most important sources of raising general revenue for healthcare financing is general taxes imposed by State. Important sources of taxes include income taxes, excise duties as well as various business taxes however, what is important is how the government allocates funds raised by charging such taxes. Though, such taxes are general in nature and the allocation of such resources depends upon the general priorities of the respective government however, If government's priorities include providing sustainable health care provision than government may divert substantial sources of funds to health care services. (Goodman & Waddington, 2008). UK's population is increasingly becoming old as well as obese therefore the overall expenditure on healthcare services is forecasted to increase in coming years. It is therefore, being proposed that specific taxes shall be levied for raising the standards of healthcare services in the country. According to one survey by BBC, in 2002, 69% of the respondents suggested to levy taxes for NHS. Similarly, obesity is increasing the overall costs to be incurred on providing quality healthcare services. Leicester & Windmeijer (2004) are of the opinion that a Fat tax should be imposed on foods which contain high fat or salt in order to control the prevalence of obesity in the country. (Leicester & Windmeijer, 2004). This is because of the fact that increase in obesity rates are increasing the overall budgets for healthcare services as service providers have to divert substantial resources to cure obese people with common diseases such as Cardiac problems, Hypertension, high sugar glucose level s etc. therefore, by levying taxes, substantial revenue sources can be generated in order to improve the general health standards of the masses. Advantages of Taxation There are different advantages of taxation for financing health care as increase in quantum of government revenue would mean greater resources to be diverted to upgrade the current state of healthcare in the country. Increasing the tax base for financing the healthcare services would therefore provide an incentive to the consumers for receiving better and much improved health care services. It is also important to understand that since taxation serve as a general source of revenue for the countries however, in most of the case; it is not earmarked for particular sectors of public healthcare services. By levying taxes specifically for healthcare se

The literature concerning Essay Example for Free

The literature concerning Essay The literature concerning welfare rights movement at least in the 1960s can be characterized by the growing cry to bring radical positive changes in the welfare system of the United States. For these scholars, the current welfare system of the United States is producing a new form of inequality despite the resources that it is providing to the poor. The current system of welfare which is limited and somehow rigid had failed to erase the problem on poverty. In this sense, these scholars are providing a new light in solving the problem on welfare and its effectiveness. Numerous scholars like Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven had argued for the radical extension and expansion of the current welfare system of the United States. For them, the existing system of welfare which is rigid and limited had failed to really help and provide assistance for the poor. The system of welfare that existed is somehow impotent in nature in relation to its capacity to erase poverty. What they are recommending is a radical change in the system that will allow more people that eligible for welfare to be subsisted on it. They also argue for an increase in amount of welfare that will not just feed the people subsisting it but will also allow them to move forward in the hierarchy that will enable them to prosper at least domestically. This can also be related to the situation of minimum wage. Minimum wage are kept at bay not on the basis of economic sustenance or company stability. Rather, wages are kept low for the workers and employees not to really prosper to come up to a point that can rise and leave their jobs. The era of individual pursuit of interest had proved to be inadequate in easing poverty among Americans. Though there are real and concrete examples of people escaping poverty on the basis of their individual merits and actions, the other people who failed to move up in the hierarchy should also be taken to consideration. The system should not just support the exceptional people who can manage to rise. Rather than providing individual reforms, what must be embrace are collective terms of actions that will provide a fertile ground for groups of people to grow and prosper. This is comparable with labor unions that push reforms, benefits and wage hikes not on the basis of individual levels but on the basis and scope of the group. For these scholars, this is the way to go if we are really aiming for the problem of poverty to be solved. References Blumer pp. 303-306 Cloward, R. Piven, F. Where is The God of Justice :: essays research papers fc

Why do thousands of God fearing Latin American Christians for instance, languish in the slums in abject poverty, while the drug cartels enjoy tequila and Cuban cigars? A few months ago there was a news report that a Missionary couple of Wycliffe Bible Translators, working the forests of Guyana had been brutally murdered. In third world countries in particular there is a marked, observable distinction between the lower, middle and upper classes. As one examines the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“haveà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢sà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬? and the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“have notà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢sà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬? from a religious perspective it often seems to be the case that those who are highly religious or shall we say those who are godly often tend to find themselves at the lower end of the economic ladder while those whose lifestyles are divergent from Biblical norms seem to be flourishing. This observation is no new phenomenon however. The Psalmist David raised series questions about it in Psalm 73, Job raises a lament about it in Job 21: 7 -25 and the prophet Habakkuk contemplates it in Habakkuk 1:13. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“ Habakkuk asks, how can Yahweh, whose eyes are too pure to behold evil, allow the wicked to swallow someone more righteous than he? Why do the wicked prosper?à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬? The question of the prosperity of the wicked is a question of theodicy (vindication of divine providence in view of the existence of evil). It is central to section of the Bible under review, Malachi 2:17 à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å" 3:5. According to The Expositorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Bible Commentary , unlike most other prophets Malachi mentioned no dateable person or events in his brief prophecy. Clues to the origin and time of his book must therefore come from the text and its implications. It has always been placed last in the minor prophets. The Talmud regularly classes the book among the postexilic prophets. The contents of the book suggest that it was written some time after Ezra. Some of the exiles had returned, the temple had been rebuilt and the sacrificial system had been reestablished to the point that where it was being abused- a matter which Malachi addressed at length. The city of Jerusalem had returned to a substantial degree of normalcy; and the inevitable lethargy, laxity and leniency in spiritual matters had developed. It is to this declining state of affairs that the prophet addressed himself. Nothing is known of Malachi apart from his book. Even his name is questioned . Some take it to be a title rather than a proper name.

Fast food restauran Essay

For each category I analyse I will show the male and female results in comparison then summarise what I interpret from the results below. Due to the fact that there are more females in Stotfold than there are males. The females’ preferences will have a larger bearing on any possible fast food restaurant to be developed. As there are unequal results from both genders I have converted my results to percentages before showing them on the graph. Visit Frequency Below is a bar chart comparing the visit frequency of male and female. I have shown the data on a bar chart because it is easier to compare. Male and female do not differ significantly as far as visit frequency is concerned. Most customers visit a fast food restaurant every two weeks, which, if there are enough customers, is sufficient to keep a fast food business afloat. Most Important Feature The bar chart below shows what both male and female consider to be the most important feature of a fast food restaurant. This just confirms what the general analysis stated: – that if a business is to succeed its customers must have confidence in its hygiene. The bar chart below shows a comparison between male and female fast food type preferences. The females’ main preferences are already well catered for in Stotfold. Kebab shops are, however , hard to find in this area and are highly popular among males. If a Kebab restaurant opened in Stotfold it could target male customers, although I have noticed that it is not just younger males that enjoy kebabs as one might have expected. Cost The chart below shows what male and females expect to pay for a fast food meal for one. This chart shows that more men are prepared to pay more for their meal than women. I think this can be shown more clearly so here is another chart showing the same information but with different price categories. This shows that the majority of males expect to pay over i 4 whereas females expect to pay below. This shows the male market is more profitable providing production and retail costs are kept to a minimum, 4) Place Information about Stotfold Stotfold is a growing town. The development of new houses in the area means that by 2004 the population will have risen by nearly 25%. The population of Stotfold in 2000 was 6680. In 2004 it is estimated that it will rise to 8180. There are also plans to develop a leisure centre in Stotfold, which may attract even more people to the area. Stotfold is on the border between Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire; there are many fast food restaurants in Hertfordshire, including large franchises, which would pose a threat to small companies opening up in the area. In my research I have collected information from Bedfordshire but the well-established businesses in Hertfordshire should be taken into account when deciding to start a new company in the area. There is an area of land on the outskirts of Stotfold by the old doctors surgery. It has planning permission and there is a possibility of a Sports facility being put up there. It is on a main road so has good access and a cycle path leading past the area. It would be extremely expensive to develop this land but if a new Sports facility were to be opened there it may be possible to incorporate a new restaurant on the complex. Below is a map showing the location I referred to. The area is within the shaded rectangle.

On-line education changes the way we think of college life 2019

In the past, traditional universities dismissed online education. As society approaches the future, the popularity of persuing an education opposite that of traditional schools has increased. This year online course enrollment will reach approximately 1.7 million students, that is triple those that enrolled in 2017. Nearly 10% of all students enrolled in college or a university will be enrolled in an online school. The University of Phoenix was the countrys first online university in 1989. As students continue to enroll in online colleges and universities, officials are expecting many new on-line schools to open. Online education is a great way to give additional education support, said Bill Pepicello, president of the University of Phoenix. Some of the large colleges and universities will reinvent themselves to get in the online market. The University of Phoenix is successful because it takes access to education to levels that a traditional colleges do not provide. Approximately 300 thousand students are attending either online or at one of the over 190 University of Phoenix campus locations, officials say. .ufc9e619622e88d243878deae0b98e1e1 { padding:0px; margin: 0; padding-top:1em!important; padding-bottom:1em!important; width:100%; display: block; font-weight:bold; background-color:#eaeaea; border:0!important; border-left:4px solid #34495E!important; box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -moz-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -o-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); text-decoration:none; } .ufc9e619622e88d243878deae0b98e1e1:active, .ufc9e619622e88d243878deae0b98e1e1:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; text-decoration:none; } .ufc9e619622e88d243878deae0b98e1e1 { transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; } .ufc9e619622e88d243878deae0b98e1e1 .ctaText { font-weight:bold; color:inherit; text-decoration:none; font-size: 16px; } .ufc9e619622e88d243878deae0b98e1e1 .post Title { color:#000000; text-decoration: underline!important; font-size: 16px; } .ufc9e619622e88d243878deae0b98e1e1:hover .postTitle { text-decoration: underline!important; } READ How to find the Perfect Part Time JobOnline education allows a greater number and diversity of classes to be offered, because online courses arent constrained by time or location, Pepicello said. In some instances, online education enchances class-size issues, because some students may not be able to physically attend class but can attend the class online. The University of Phoenix is also an excellent option for those who do not wish to attend traditional colleges or universities. Its more productive for some types of students, notably those who perform better with a more diverse schedule where time and location is not an issue, Pepicello said. A group that most on-line universities and colleges call their bread and butter are those students that are considered non-tranditional students by other college and university institutes.
